Review #2: My key fob lost a button but otherwise worked perfectly fine with my car. Thus, the interior electronics and programming worked fine. TRS screen repair owner, Jeovanny, offered to buy new housing and put the insides of my current key into the new housing for only $100. Given these types of key fobs cost up to $1200, I decided to take the deal. BMW made repairing this key fob extremely difficult, because they do not support third party repair personnel, and they did not even make it possible to open up the housing without destroying it. After repair, I tried it on my car, and it now works just as well as the original key fob. The interior physical key clicks in and out very gracefully with no effort. I can slide the key into my Mini Cooper start slot and take it back out without having to fiddle with it. It’s rare when buying aftermarket parts to see them work as well if not better than the parts bought directly from the manufacturer. Therefore, I am very pleased with Jeovanny’s level of skill and dedication to my task. Incidentally, although this key is not covered by New York State’s Right to Repair law, I will point out that BMW’s pattern and practice of making this key so difficult to repair effectively is an egregiously anti-competitive practice. BMW’s anti-competitive practices are violations of the US Anti-Trust Act, because BMW is attempting to monopolize the key fob repair market rather than allow free and fair market competition. It’s time to ask for proper enforcement of this law when it comes to car key fobs.
